Each week that I am able to go with the Samaritans I feel blessed, because I can be a part of the ministry these Jesuits provide the migrants. Their hearts are full of love and concern for these people. Men, women, and children who only seek a life where they can offer a better life. I have been involved with the Samaritans in Green Valley since its formation. This has been life changing, and the migrants have touched my very soul. How can anyone say they are Aliens. I just challenge them to come with me. Listen to their stories, and their truth will set you free. FREE from the myths that block our having a immigration policy which will allow US and them benefits. Thank you Peg for giving all of us a voice.

Thank you sooo much, Peg. It is so important to really see these faces and hear their stories. We forget that EVERY one of them who tries this harrowing journey has a family and a life story, has a mother, siblings, children. My Mom sounds like yours. Thank you.

"El Comedor" reflects & reverberates non-violence, compassion, and commitment to the bigger issues of individuals seeking out a way to improve their & their families' survival. "The Wall" is so ugly & since there is now 0% immigration from Mexico, why can't our congress people, the GOP, independents, democrats find consensus & hiding behind ugly labeling, profiling, and their fears of changing demographics in the U.S.? I'm ashamed to live north of "The Wall" and to even be categorized with a government who is so archaic in this ludicrous erection of a impenetrable wall. Perhaps Mexico should halt all trade with the U.S., including putting an embargo on their oil going to the U.S. Where are the Supreme Court justices in the wider bilateral agreements with Mexico,Central/South America?!

If true justice will be done, shouldn't there be reciprocal reciprocity with this wall....Mexico must laugh at such archaic actions of their North American neighbors....does this mean Mexico will boycott the U.S. by refusing to send fresh fruit, vegetables, & finished computer, clothing, technological, automobile parts, etc to the U.S.? Shouldn't "the wall" also cancel the free trade agreements which exist between Mexico & the U.S.? It is the U.S. who loses in every way with this wall....we alienate our economic positions, our political allies, and send an international message that the U.S. has failed at its worst policies of dealing with reform more from inside its borders than with its economic partners!!

It can be so easy to disregard groups of people you never see. People consider this land and everything in it to belong to them. And then, someone paints a story of how "the other" is trying to take what is theirs away. Bam. That's it; it's ingrained. And for many people, that's where learning about "the other" stops. It's all the us vs. them mentality, and what is at stake is some imaginary possession.

I think this blog, and the work that is being done at the comedor, is the remedy to the situation. It might not seem like much is being changed, but that is how loving, gentle kindness works. It's subtle, it's working undercover, and it is STRONG. It can change their hearts.

It's easy to say, though, but difficult at times to put into practice. Just the other day, I saw a bumper sticker that included some racist commentary about immigrants. I wanted to knock on the fellow's window and ask, "So, which Native American tribe do you belong to?" The way people thing is unreal at times. But I guess that's why patience is a virtue...

The United States has the right to protect it's brdreos and citizens. If that means prosecuting people who enter the country unlawfully, then so be it. Break the law, due the time. Irregardless, the punishment starts at 15 days confinement, then release to their country of origin. Read a little and you can find the truth. There is no human rights violation, because no one has the RIGHT to enter another country in an unlawful manner. No one has the RIGHT to not be prosecuted for committing a crime.

Enlightening story. I just told my spouse how much I loved Tucson after visiting there several years ago. He said we should go soon. This has inspired me to find a way to help. Thanks!
